As a youth, I loved September. Going back to school. The leaves changing colors. Latin, French, Math. All the things I loved. And it is my birthday month. My mother made a REAL cake. Chocolate, with vanilla frosting.
I'm a big proponent of being kind, or at least pleasant, to strangers. A kind word or an attempt at communication with another person is like water in a desert. That's how many of us feel. We're all in this together, Don't forget that.
What a sick clot of numbies this group is. Just when you learn how demented one of them is, another one tops it. It must be a competition of some kind.
I'd like to think that that is a bargain-basement casket standing on its' edge. That'll happen soon enough, I suppose. It looks his size though, and is the right color.
I have some wide-mouth pints too, but I usually use them for storing herbs and seeds, You can't find them everywhere. The art of canning and preserving isn't practiced as much as was once common, and I think people are missing out on a lot fun as well as missing better food.
When we can, we use whatever canning jars are available, Sometimes 'regular" quart jars, sometimes the wide-mouthed variety. It's a matter of making do with what we have. We're not above using a pint jar or two also, in case we make a small soup. But we prefer the wide-mouthed.
They look great. Wide-mouth jars too. Excellent!
I see that the evil of the Sununu legacy still haunts New Hampshire apparently. Not two or three standard deviations from the mean either. More kleptocratic than democratic.
One of the great teachings I learned about( and has stuck with me for sixty-five years) when I was very young is that all beings are primarily Buddha. All of us are perfect in essence, though our expression may become distorted by happenstance. With luck and forbearance we can heal.
And let me guess............ that must mean that, by the law of averaging, 95% of these ex-sixth graders live in the red states.
There'll be textbooks about this in a few years, and Roberts will be forced to live off the mainland.

It's gotten to the point where yesterday I cancelled my NYT subscription. There's not enough real reporting on the evil of Trump. There will be a real resistance, but how we will fund it and maintain it, even in secret, is a concern.

I discovered Lafcadio Hearn as a young boy in college and read Shadowings in about 1970. I wish I had seen that cover then. I'm still kind of stuck in a place inhabited by Hearn and Maxfield Parish, which has influenced my own attempts at painting. It's kind of a permanent fugue state, I guess.
Steve knows so many ways to have fun that I'm astounded, and has been very lucky in being born with a body that can implement them all. I'm jealous.

It would have been more helpful by far if these decisions were declared decades ago. These deathbed conversions by European countries and the old Commonwealth countries are too late now. The toll in deaths and cultural genocide make a recovery from the crimes of Israel perhaps impossible.
My wife and I are the last of our families. Our sons will have no children. I am glad. Our species is a metastasizing pestilence and we kill everything else with complete indifference. Current conditions in the US continue to accelerate the process.
Every country should do the same thing. You can't just drive until you kill someone and they take away your license. My father had macular degeneration and had a serious accident before he was compelled to quit driving. I'm eighty now (almost) and I think this is a great and overdue idea.
Rissoles are a wonderful comfort food, and very adaptable. Both Delicious AND nutritious. Easy to make too. My favourite summer treat is a vegetable dish of tomatoes, celery, onion, and peppers over basmati rice. Most of the veggies come from my garden. They're pretty low in calories too.

I've ceased caring about vaccination rates. I know they're good and that they work. My family always is vaccinated for whatever viruses are current and all historical viruses. The red states can die and go to hell , the sooner, the better. It's a matter of survival. The red states are expendable.

Oh yes. Jiggs continues to place herself in just the right places so that Mom has to use some extra steps to get around her, thus giving her some extra steps to take with her walker. Mom thinks it's funny and good exercise. Getting a lot of steps in is important in healing right now.
Hoomom's recovery is progressing. A little better each day. Hoodad on the other hand has been a very busy boy. When your partner is largely unable to do most things, there's a lot of vacant area to cover. It was for better or worse after all. But this is all very handleable.

All of us birders are very much interested in sightings of the bird. I live in Eastern NY, around Albany. We have a pretty healthy population of eagles here, and we see things like that as an indication that the land is fairly clean and animals which support raptors dietary needs are flourishing.

Jiggs has never wanted the big be. What she wants is just company. She was alone for a long time while her previous person worked twelve hour days. The only time we leave her is for a doctor's appointment. Maybe an hour or so. We hate the storms too, so we know how upsetting they can be.👍
I've read long books, all the Usuals. Proust, Vasily Grossman, the bio of Lytton Strachey. A Dance to the Music of Time, etc. But the prospect of Pilgrimage is daunting. An actual, rather than literal Himalayan landscape. It's available in digital form on Archive.com. I have time. Lots of time.

Dogs are wonderful people. True, we take care of them and so forth. But their differences compared to us make them a constant source of interest and enjoyment for us. It's a pretty even trade.
