🤷🏻♀️ They've already done much more than I would have imagined they could. I keep thinking that the Republicans in Congress will do their constitutional jobs and not abdicate their power to the executive branch. 🤦🏻♀️🙄

Yes, I think that is what's happening, ramming through all the P2025 oligarchy/dictatorship executive orders now, so that they have firm control when Trump obviously can't function at all or passes away.

The powers-that-be were obviously on a hair-trigger alert for any sign of civic dispute with their actions. That this homeless man's impulsive protest is the best prosecution they can come up with demonstrates they had no reason to occupy the city. It really doesn't even warrant a misdemeanor.

Democracy doesn't work without the common good. What we didn't have in place were guardrails against the creep towards oligarchy or authoritarianism and extreme economic inequality. We don't have adequate legal mechanisms to fight those who have now achieved power and want to destroy our democracy.

Very much inching towards the corruption, of both religion and government, and oppression that every meld of religion and government exhibits.

I've been out of the classroom for 20 years, but I knew a few teachers who would have taken phones away if they saw them, regardless of what the student said. Sadly, there are teachers who don't think there should be any kind of ADA accommodation within their classroom. In a case like this, I'd ask that the phone be silent and in a pocket or backpack. Closest thing I can think of before going out on disability 20 years ago was

For my HS students who didn't want their peers at lunch to know they didn't have money that day, I kept instant foods like raman and cup-a-soup (and even instant coffee) in my classroom. They could pay me back later...but all my students knew I didn't write anything down nor try to remember.
