Absolutely....if there were any issues, at least with the schools I worked in, they were usually at the Board level and involved overzealous trustees or superintendents. At the school level we were very open and accepting of all genders and differing religions or non-believers.

Our publicly funded Separate (Catholic) High schools in Ontario do have daily prayers in school and students must take a mandatory religion course each year (gr 9-12). Exemptions from the rel. course is rare. Students do not have to be Catholic to attend these high schools.
