I'm sitting in the garden of my new home watching about forty house martins circling just above. I'm so happy to have them here,as they disappeared from my previous home when the local farm was converted into housing.

First bird of my day: another jackdaw in the rainy sky, heading for the shelter of the trees. Last night I watched about thirty jackdaws gather in a tree at the far end of the field, before heading off to their roost. #FirstBirdOfMyDay

First bird of my day in my new home - a jackdaw flying across the gardens as I opened the back door. So far, I have seen a sparrow gang in the hedge, swallows and house martins skimming the field across the road, crows and a woodpigeon (of course!). #FirstBirdOfMyDay

First bird of my day: jackdaws drawing a straight black line in the dawn sky as they leave their roost for the day. This is also Last Day of My Birds as I'm moving house after 26 years, so will no longer see the bullfinches and all the other wonderful birds that visit my garden. #FirstBirdOfMyDay
