Free advice for the administration: If you want to stop the Trump health coverage, maybe stop posting verifiably old videos and keeping him as far away from cameras as humanly possible
To be clear: 1. We’ve taken in roughly $150 billion in tariffs - nowhere near a single trillion, much less trillions. 2. Tariffs single-handedly saving our military — which has been the strongest in the world for decades — is the dumbest shit I’ve read today.

I think that’s likely. They’re getting absolutely destroyed by their Constituents right now. Turns out people don’t love the platform of kissing Trump’s ass at the cost of everything else.
That’s simple, actually. They aren’t going after research and healthcare specifically - they’re going after data and verifiable facts period. The entire goal is to keep people dumb and afraid. It’s been their goal to force us into a post-fact society for a long time, and they’re close.
I do think the DNC has to stop treating new progressives like the plague, yes. But there has to be a give and take there, too - Progressives have to understand that they can’t just badmouth ‘normie’ Dems at will. We’re all on the same side and need to act like it.
It might be something he’s considering, but martial law in itself won’t stop an election. He doesn’t have the authority to cancel an election. And if people are going to try to stop us from voting? Good fucking luck.
I don’t think anything is out of the question at this point. A quote from my most recent piece: “Pandemics don’t wait for elections. Hollowing out the CDC may score Trump political points with the anti-vax crowd, but the bill will eventually come due, and it won’t be paid in votes.”
I think it’s a valid question, but I also think we have to be careful not to turn into MAGA. The election was extraordinarily close and largely matched what polls looked like. The margins were outside of recount territory, so they would have had to pay. I would have liked to see at least one.
I’ll be protesting this weekend and cooking a brisket. That’s about the extent of my plans. Probably drinking a *lot* of scotch after this week.

I love the premise, but I’m also curious if it can actually be done. I think that’s gotta be the nuclear option for the states, though - because if they try that and it *doesn’t* work, there’s not much else that can be done. Like, that has to be the ‘he’s trying to cancel the election’ option

Utah shot down a redistricting attempt. Californian courts rejected a challenge to their redistricting attempt. Texas passed theirs, but they’re being sued over it as we speak. Dems have actually had several rulings go our way this week.
Every time they call him childish or insufferable, I just crack up. I think Newsom is probably the 2028 favorite right now, but it’s waaaaaaay too early to actually predict anything re: the Dem field

I’m not blaming the Squad for anything that’s happening in Gaza, no. I’m blaming the Squad for clearly getting caught up in a foreign intelligence operation and using their massive platforms to further divide the Democratic Party before the most important election of our lives.
The other thing we can (and should) do right now is start planning to vote as many Republicans out of office as humanly possible. Every state and local election. Midterms, etc. They’re all must wins. Then we can start limiting the damage that’s being done.
The only thing we can ‘do’ to stop this is mass, sustained protests. I’m talking protests that are big enough to impact the economy. Folks who aren’t on political social media don’t think it’s bad enough for that yet, though, and I honestly question whether we have the attention span for it at all.

That’s probably the goal. Trump is looking for a way to deploy the Guard in other blue cities, but thankfully he doesn’t have blanket control over them like he does in DC. In other cities, he would have to do something to incite mass protests or a riot before he could legally federalize the Guard.
Whoever does his color matching either quit or they hate him. That’s terrible. There’re no way the White House ran out of Cheetos to crush up and dust him with.

I think Vance taking over is actually best case scenario (other than a meteor…). The GOP doesn’t respect him. There’s no cult like following. They don’t fear him, etc. Vance would likely have an extremely milquetoast presidency.
I don’t think he’s actively working to oust Trump, but I think he was probably involved in the WSJ / Epstein leaks that were designed to weaken him. The GOP has gotten most of what they want from Trump, so they can afford to cut ties with him - just hard to do without alienating MAGA.
You have to understand the hesitancy, too - particularly after the Free Palestine movement (including members of the Squad) spent months bashing Biden and dividing the Democratic Party over Israel and Gaza. Now look where Gaza is. It’s fucking awful.
I think the most important thing we can do right now is NOT participate in any civil wars in the Democratic Party - the stakes are too high for party infighting. I view this a lot like I view AOC. The establishment was wary of her. She came in and crushed it, now they love her. 1/2
On vacation, I read “Army of None” by Paul Scharre. It’s about autonomous weapons and the future of war. Now I’m reading “The Coming Wave” by Mustafa Suleyman and Michael Bhaskar. Also about AI, but more broadly about where we go from here than just combat applications.
Elections aren’t run by the federal government. Trump has no way to cancel them. He could try, but a handful of red states would be the only ones that complied. Blue states would tell him to get fucked.
I don’t think we’ve reached the point of no return yet, but I also don’t think you’re overreacting. We’re in a dangerous moment, and you’re right to be worried, but it’s not the first time we’ve been here. America is resilient. When norms are shattered, resistance builds. We’re seeing that right now

Vacation was fantastic! Putin knows how much of a political win that was. Not only did he get the literal red carpet and the flyover, but he was given further legitimacy by getting to ride in the literal seat of American force projection.
